Day Program
The Day Program provides an array of programming and services for women offenders and women with substance abuse histories in an effort to reach levels of self-sufficiency remain drug/alcohol free and crime free. These goals are achieved by promoting various programs and services designed to increase self esteem, enhance marketable skills and encourage independence from the welfare and criminal justice system. The PROGRAM’s Day Program is primarily funded by the United Way of the Capital Region and other local funding partners.
Opportunity
The Day Program is provided in a safe and supportive environment at The PROGRAM’s Community Center. Upon a woman’s release from prison she are able to receive a variety of services all designed to assist her with her reintegration back into the community.
Staff will conduct initial and update intakes and assist women with developing goal plans to identify and address barriers/concerns and a plan of action. Life Skills Seminars are offered on a daily basis by staff and community volunteers for clients to learn healthy ways of handling with the stresses of every day life. Case Management and supportive services that include therapeutic referrals, housing placement, crisis intervention, and other issues are offered.
Women are able to participate in employment and training activities that include computer training, job readiness/job search in an effort to obtain gainful employment. Vocational and employment counseling is also available that includes assisting them with career research and finding suitable employment while addressing the “offender” issue.
The PROGRAM in collaboration with Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), Tri-County OIC and PA Literacy Council provides GED and tutoring studies for those women in need of their GED attainment. In addition, women are encouraged to explore college, business schools and other institutions of higher learning.
Day Program Staff are available to assist those first time offenders who are in need of programming and services prior to returning to court for their final sentencing.
Clients are able to be referred to the agency’s Children’s Program Director for Saturday Sessions which is a program designed to encourage women offenders to spend quality time together through six (06) activity sessions.

Eligibility/Referral Process
Any woman who has had a brush with the law as a juvenile or adult or has a substance abuse history is eligible for services.
Any woman recently released from prison and/or drug/alcohol treatment facilities are eligible for services.
Women in crisis and immediate need may walk in without an appointment for assistance.
