Promise Place

Promise Place was conceived in the hearts of three caring women who developed the mission of entering Dauphin County Prison in the early 1980s to conduct a weekly ministry of Hope, Faith, and Love.

From their efforts Promise Place has grown to meet the needs of women who have no home, no job, and little or no help with reconnecting with their children and families.

In October, 1997, The PROGRAM – “It’s About Change” assumed responsibility of operating Promise Place and providing programming and services for women in need of structure and support during their transition.

Women released from prison and/or drug/alcohol treatment, have an opportunity to reside in a safe and supportive environment and to receive programming.

Woman who are interested in recovery are eligible to apply for enrollment. The average length of participation is from 3 months to one year. Individuals who do apply are expected to participate at least 6 months with the intentions of completing the program. There are five phase levels that the client must attain before she is considered a successful graduate.

Each resident is required to maintain gainful employment, attend N/A and/or AA meetings, participate in community service, treatment and programming, remain drug/alcohol free, and ultimately secure her own home or apartment upon release.

Promise Place works closely with Federal, State, & County Adult Parole and Probation.

The facility provides the type of atmosphere that is very similar to one’s home. Each client is responsible for purchasing and preparing her own meals. In cases where Promise Place has clients who are also mothers, specialized programming is available to assist these mothers and their children in the reunification process and learning how to spend quality time together.
